An excerpt from "Percy the Peaceful Platypus "
That winter, in a quiet corner of Australia, a mother platypus dug a special nesting-burrow at the end of a long winding tunnel beside a quiet pool.
In a warm safe place with a high rounded roof she made a damp nest of grass, leaves and willow-roots. There in the little nest she laid two creamy-white leathery eggs which were lightly joined together. She placed them on her broad flat tail, curled the rest of her body around them, and there she stayed from two weeks, until it was time for her babies to hatch out of their shells.
